How YLP Works

Young Leaders Program is a competitive program where only 25 students will be admitted to take part in an interactive leadership development program which runs from January to May 2018. The following are major program components for YLP 2018:

Program Components

Professional Development
Students will learn variety of professional development topics delivered by subject matter expert. To help their progress, we will pair each student with a mentor. All students will be required to attend all monthly meetings and must meet in person with their mentor at least two times during the program (January to May).
  • An interactive session which involve presentation, interactive activities and discussion session.
  • Students will be divided into 5 teams and each team will be responsible to organize and run one monthly meeting.
  • Format & location: A two-hour meeting each month at the HUB of University of Washington.
  • Meeting dates:
    • Jan 13 - Collaboration
    • Feb 10 - Problem solving
    • Mar 3 - Project management and organization skills
    • Apr 7 - PR and Marketing
    • May 12 - Public speaking and presentation skills
 
Bloodworks Northwest Community Engagement Project
A project based initiative created by Bloodworks Northwest to find solutions to one of the most pressing community issues.
  • Project goal: Raising the percentage of Asian blood donor in the King County area.
  • Project scope: 5 months project lead by Bloodworks Northwest team and 2 mentors. Each student team will be assigned to one project with expected completion date in May 2018.
  • Benefit: Perform a real world project backed up by resources provided by Bloodworks Northwest, opportunity to make impact to the local society, practice critical skills (i.e., organization skills, project management and critical thinking skills), get noticed by future employer.
 
Community for Socially Responsible Student
Build lasting friendship with like-minded students who have strong desire to succeed and to give back to the community.
  • Volunteer at one Chamber event of your choice
  • Network with various student organization from different universities in Seattle area
  • Have fun and relax with peers who share similar passion for being a socially responsible leader of tomorrow.
